WHY CAST IRON COOKWARE?
Cast iron cookware has been used for hundreds of years. It is durable, affordable, and has the best heat retention of all cookware products.
WHY PRESEASONED CAST IRON COOKWARE?
Preseasoned cast iron cookware prevents the cookware from rusting. It also gives you a non-stick surface for cooking. Preseasoned cast iron cookware will also protect your food from the iron of the pan. Preseasoned cast iron cookware requires little oil when cooking. The more you use your preseasoned cast iron cookware, the more non-stick the surface becomes. The reason is that preseasoned cast iron cookware is porous and absorbs the oil when it is heated, thus protecting it against future moisture.
CARE OF PRESEASONED CAST IRON COOKWARE:
There are different methods for cleaning cast iron cookware:
- Scrub with a tablespoon of kosher salt (or any other coarse salt) and rub with a towel. Rinse with cold water.
- Scrub with boiling or near boiling water and a nylon or fiber brush.
- Use very mild soap (a vegetable wash would be appropriate) and a nylon or fiber brush.
- Boil a solution of corn or rice starch and water in the cookware. Make sure the solution touches all parts of
cookware. Then pour out the solution and peel off. Rinse the cookware in hot water.
- If you are cooking acidic foods, please remove from cookware immediately after cooking.
CAN CAST IRON COOKWARE RUST?
Cast iron cookware will not rust if it is properly cared for. There a few simple rules to follow to maintain your cast iron cookware virtually forever. Cast iron cookware should never be put in a dishwasher. Keep your cast iron cookware dry when not in use.
WHAT CAN I DO IF MY CAST IRON COOKWARE RUSTS?
Use steel wool and scour your cookware, then scrub with soapy, hot water and scour again with steel wool. Do not forget to dry the cookware. You may then preseason it with vegetable oil.
HOW DO I RE-SEASON NY CAST IRON COOKWARE?
- Start with clean and dry cookware.
- Rub the cookware with a generous amount of oil.
- Put the cookware on a low heat for at least one hour, or bake it in a 350 degree oven for 2 hours.
- Repeat above several times before using your cast iron cookware.
